About Studio & Craft

Studio & Craft is a poetry community developed by poet and essayist Catherine Pierce, built around the idea that good writing requires discovery, delight, rigor, and support.

The name Studio & Craft reflects two pathways of offerings: Studio Sessions are generative sessions to jumpstart new projects, spark creativity, and provide a supportive environment for experimentation, risk, and play. Craft Sessions are sustained sessions to produce and polish work.

Studio offerings include weekly Creative Burst sessions (a protected block of writing time, in community with others) and monthly Enweirdening sessions (oddball strategies for approaching your craft/writing time in fresh ways, with a different theme each month). Craft offerings include multi-week workshops and individual manuscript consultations.

A note from Catherine

Hello! I’m glad you found Studio & Craft—I’m looking forward to working with you to spark, explore, disrupt, discover, and/or polish your writing. After stepping away from a seventeen-year career as a creative writing professor in order to move closer to family, I realized that what I wanted was to continue teaching, with an emphasis on play, flexibility, and meeting writers where they are. Studio & Craft was born out of a desire to offer the kinds of classes and sessions I’ve found myself wanting at different points in my writing life—ones that emphasize experimentation and flexibility, offer just enough structure, and recognize there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to poems. It’s my hope that you’ll find something here that will be the right fit for whatever your own writing life needs right now.
